I was listening to The Theory of Daily Fantasy Sports Audio Class and Jordan Cooper said something similar to, "If you have two equally skilled DFS players, and they repeatedly go head to head, you're actually losing money because of the rake." A lot of people ignore this concept and wonder why they aren't profitable in DFS. If you have two players of equal skill going head to head, chances are they'll win at a 50% rate. When you factor the rake that sites like Draft King's take, you aren't even breaking even.
If you do a $10 head to head and win, you'll win $18, so the rake is $2. So you do 10 head to heads with someone of equal skill, you win 5 of them. You lose 5 of them. Are you breaking even? No. You've spent $100 and won $90. You've lost $10. You have to win 6 times to make $8 profit.
What if there wasn't a rake? What if there were no sharks so you could win a lot more than 50% head to heads? What if you joined a GPP contest and it filled 69%? The 'Guaranteed Prize Pool' doesn't change. How much better are your chances of getting a piece of a prize pool- in a contest made for 1100 entrants - when only 811 actually show up?
The case for Owner's Box. Owner's Box is that new DFS Platform where you want to play because their contests are rake free, with overlays, and no sharks. If you're serious about being profitable in DFS, this is the platform and the type of contests that you want to target.
The difference with Owner's Box is they do a Superflex Format but most diehard fantasy football fans have at least One Superflex league, anyways, so you're already familiar with the format.
Last week I entered some lineups into a few of their low stakes contests that never filled and almost took down a contest with 811 entries that was far shy of the 1176 that it was supposed to be. There was nothing crazy about my lineup. Now this is a Superflex meets DFS contest, so my strategy is to find a pay down option at QB in a good matchup and I did that in a team stack with Teddy/Williams/Sutton. I also did a gamestack of Cousins/Jefferson/Moore and a few one offs Carson, Chubb, and Cook. I only scored 169 points in super flex and still found my way into a top 5 finish.
If you haven't played Owner's Box yet, this is the chance as they're giving away $25 with your first deposit. Get in and make some money while you still can before these contests start to fill and they start taking rake!
