When you cash in cash, it's always a good week!
This week there were two elite players that really stood out to me - Davante Adams and Derrick Henry.
Initially, there was no way to get both of these guys into your cash lineup without paying down for a risky QB, but there ended up being more value on the slate thanks to late news on Saturday.
When I was looking at initial Fantasy Points Per Dollar projections through the optimizer, Curtis Samuel, Robby, Anderson and Davante Adams were popping off at WR with the best value. Samuel had 2.95, Anderson had 2.84, and Adams had 2.78. Adams was $9300 so this was a staggering projection to me but it's why Adams is in consideration every week even at his $9300 price tag.
Samuel was $5200 and Anderson was $6200 on Draft Kings so I knew I would be playing one of these WR's to pair with Adams in my Davante lineup builds. (Anderson/Samuel were both affordable but it's a risky proposition to play two WR's from the same team in cash in case that team total ends up going far below what was projected.)
A big part of my lineup construction was focused on either Mahomes or Rodgers because the high variance from the pay down options at QB was just too risky for me. I felt there was good value at WR & TE to pay down there instead.
Rodgers was a $600 discount from Mahomes and has the same floor, with more or less the same ceiling. I was not phased by Aaron Jones' big week vs Detroit early in the season because 1. Adams was out for a big part of that game with a hamstring issue and 2. I've seen Rodgers throw at the goal line and target Adams multiple weeks in a row. Also, Jones is also in a committee so he has to be really good with his carries. He was a tournament only play for me.
Saturday morning I was looking over the chalk projections and considering two different builds as a result of it:
One build that had a Chalky Ekeler at 7K that could afford Rodgers/Adams and another that had Chalky Henry at $8700 who was also in a great matchup.
I figured if I went with Henry, I would get one stud WR in the 7K range, a Samuel/Anderson type in the 5-7K range and hopefully still cash by finding great value elsewhere.
That was until more news came down..
When the news broke that Deandre Washington was going to start for Miami at 4K, I decided to lock him into my lineup once I saw that he was projected at about 30% ownership. He was your free square. He was your pivot to be able to afford Henry/Adams. He was your ticket to victory lane.
With Rodgers, Henry, and Adams in my lineup, I expected 80-90 points but knew even more was possible. With 90, I would need only an average of 10 points per player from each of the 6 remaining roster spots and that should be easy to get as long as one outperforms their salary by a bit, and that ended up being the Cowboys at $2400 which I gave you in the Weekly preview. Rodgers, Adams, Henry, and the Cowboys combined for 115 points. I got 55 points from the rest of my roster to push me well past the cash line.
You'll see below that finding value, underrated plays in good matchups was my plan to be able to play chalky, elite players in great matchups. I never expected big days from Perriman, Patrick, & Kmet but their FPTS per Dollar were solid enough for me to pair them with the Big Players in Adams & Henry.
We don't like Chalk in Big tournaments but it is your friend in Cash. Eating the chalk pays off more times than not & you'll see I ate plenty of it this week.
